Integrating compressed CO2 energy storage in an oxy-coal combustion power plant with CO2 capture

To compensate for the high cost of CO2 capture, this study proposes a novel solution that integrates compressed energy storage (CCES) system into an oxy-coal combustion power plant with capture (Oxy_CCES). The integration has potential to create arbitrage from variations in electricity prices. proposed Oxy_CCES can achieve higher net efficiency 34.1%, and exergy 57.5%, than liquified oxygen storage-integrated (Oxy_O2). Two scenarios, i.e., retrofitting existing (S–I) building new (S-II), were established compare Oxy_O2. In S–I, payback time is one year S-II levelized (LCOE) increases by 1.8%, which lower sensitivity analysis shows that, when difference between peak valley prices capacities systems increase 50%, present value (NPV) LCOE 113.4% 1.7% respectively, are NPV
